General Questions
What is WindowTop?
WindowTop is a powerful Windows utility that allows you to keep windows always on top, adjust transparency, use Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, add anchors, enable dark mode for any window, and more. It enhances your multitasking and productivity on Windows.
Is WindowTop free?
Yes! WindowTop offers a free version with many essential features. There is also an optional Pro version that unlocks advanced features.
What is the difference between Free and Pro versions?
The Free version includes basic features such as Always-on-Top, Opacity Control, basic PiP, and more. The Pro version offers advanced PiP (crop, resize), advanced anchors, advanced dark mode, and additional customization and productivity tools.
Can I use WindowTop for commercial/business purposes?
The Free version is for personal, non-commercial use only. If you want to use WindowTop for business or commercial purposes, you need a Pro license.
Which Windows versions are supported?
WindowTop supports Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 64bit only. Note: dark-mode and glass mode features requires minimum Windows 10 and not supported on older Windows versions.
Is WindowTop safe?
Yes. WindowTop is digitally signed by Microsoft Store and regularly scanned for malware. It does not collect or transmit personal data.
Installation & Updates
How do I install WindowTop?
There are several ways to install WindowTop:
- Standard Installer: Download the installer from the official download page and run it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Microsoft Store: You can install WindowTop directly from the Microsoft Store. This version will automatically stay updated through the Store.
- Portable Version: If you prefer not to install, you can download the portable version as well from official download page. Just extract and run without installation.
How do I update WindowTop?
- Standard Installer: WindowTop can automatically check for updates and update itself.
- Microsoft Store: Updates are handled automatically by the Store.
- Portable Version: Simply download the latest portable package from the official download page and replace the existing files.
Do I need to uninstall the previous version before updating?
No. You can install the new version over the existing one. Your settings will be preserved.
However, for the Standard Installer, it is recommended (and sometimes required) to completely exit WindowTop before starting the update process to ensure a smooth installation.
For the Microsoft Store and Portable Version, it’s usually not necessary to close the app, but we still suggest exiting the application before updating to minimize potential issues.
Features & Usage
- Always-on-Top – Quickly keep any window always on top.
- Picture-in-Picture (PiP) – Create a floating mini-window that stays on top. In Pro mode, you can crop and resize it.
- Anchors – Attach floating buttons (anchors) to any window for fast access.
- Opacity Control – Make any window transparent for better multitasking.
- Dark Mode – Invert window colors to reduce eye strain.
- Glass Mode – Apply a beautiful blur effect to windows for a modern look.
Hotkeys
You can customize hotkeys for most features in the Settings > Hotkeys menu.

WindowTop Toolbar
The WindowTop toolbar provides quick access to all features. You can configure it to your preference: disable it completely, enable integration with the minimize button, change the toolbar theme (Pro version only), and adjust other toolbar settings. If you want, you can work with hotkeys only without toolbar at all.
Exclusions
The Exclusions options allow you to control which applications WindowTop processes. You can exclude specific apps so that WindowTop will completely ignore them, or you can enable whitelist mode to allow WindowTop to process only the apps you specify. To access this setting, click the WindowTop tray icon -> Settings -> Blacklist / Whitelist windows.

Licensing & Support
How do I purchase a Pro license?
You can purchase a Pro license directly from the Purchase page.
Note: I highly encourage purchasing directly through the website, as it supports the product much better by allowing me to receive the full amount without losing a significant percentage to Microsoft Store fees. 🙂
How do I activate WindowTop after purchasing a license?
There are two activation methods:
- Microsoft Store Activation: This method works only if you installed WindowTop from the Microsoft Store. Activation is handled automatically using your Microsoft account. This activation method is not available if you use the regular installer or the portable version.
- License Key Activation: This method is supported in all versions: Microsoft Store, Standard Installer, and Portable Version. You simply enter your purchased license key to activate the Pro features.

Can I use my license on another computer?
Yes. You can deactivate your license on one machine and activate it on another. More details and instructions can be found in the Activation Guide.
What should I do if I have an issue or bug?
Please report issues on our Reddit community or contact us via the Contact form.
Is there a trial for the Pro version?
Yes, it should be noted that the trial period is activated automatically upon first launch of the software. You’ll see a notification indicating that the trial period has started right after the first launch. I should mention that if this isn’t your first time installing the software, and a trial was already activated in the past, more than 30 days ago —you won’t receive another trial. Therefore, we recommend that you try all the features after installation. If you didn’t get a chance to test the features, you can contact us through the support page and we may grant you an additional trial period.

How can I request a new feature?
Feature requests and questions should be submitted on the Reddit community. This allows other users to vote and discuss, helping prioritize development.
