Save Window Configuration – WindowTop
WindowTop allows you to save and automatically restore window-specific settings such as Always-on-Top, Opacity, PiP mode, and more. This is useful when you want certain windows (like Notepad or a media player) to always open with your preferred configuration.
What is “Save Window Configuration”?
This feature lets you remember the current WindowTop settings for a specific app window. For example, you can set a Notepad window to always be transparent and on top, then save that configuration. The next time you open Notepad, WindowTop will automatically apply the same settings to it.
You can also later delete the saved configuration if you no longer want it to be auto-applied.
How to Save a Window Configuration
- Make sure the toolbar is enabled.
The toolbar appears when you hover your mouse above the window’s titlebar or the minimize button (based on your toolbar settings). - Click the arrow button to expand the toolbar.

- Click the Save icon to save the current window configuration.

- After saving, the configuration will be automatically applied every time you open a similar window (e.g. Notepad). For example, if you saved a configuration with opacity enabled, then reopening Notepad will automatically make it transparent.
How to Delete a Saved Configuration
- Open the same kind of window (e.g. Notepad) where configuration was previously saved.
- Expand the toolbar as before.
- Click the X icon to delete the saved configuration.

Once deleted, WindowTop will stop auto-applying settings to that window type.
This feature is great for power users who want to streamline their workflow by having WindowTop remember window-specific preferences. If you have any questions or issues, feel free to contact support or ask directly in this page in the comments section, or ask in reddit.com/r/windowtop.
